1. Choosing the right French pin
Before we begin, I want to show you the difference between two French pins. The French pin above is very thin and flimsy.
I don’t recommend it. To prove my point, try doing a little drop test. Listen closely to the sound it makes when it’s dropped—very cheap!

Compare that to this higher-quality one above, which is what I do recommend. It’s thick, sturdy, and holds my hair in place all day.
It’s also not too heavy, so it won’t hurt your head. When you drop this one, you can hear the difference—much sturdier and made from heavy-duty metal.

2. Basic twisted French pin style
I’ll start with an easy style. My hair is a bit greasy today, but I just used a lot of shampoo, so hopefully, you can’t tell!
First, pull your hair back like you’re making a regular ponytail.

Take two fingers from your right hand and place them on the opposite side of your ponytail.

Start wrapping your ponytail around those fingers.

As you wrap, twist your hair upward toward the top of your head.

Tuck in any loose ends, or leave them out for a more relaxed look.

Now, when inserting your French pin, don’t just stick it straight in. The curved side of the pin should be facing inward.
Hook it into the top of your twist, lift it slightly, and then push it down into the twist.

This will keep it super secure. You can adjust it to your liking and style it in different ways.

3. Twisted French pin bun
Let’s step it up a notch! Start with the same twisted French pin style, but with a little twist. As you twist your hair up, keep your fingers inside the top of your French twist. You’ll notice a little bun forming at the bottom.

Take your fingers and pull that bun through the opening to create a more structured bun shape.

Once again, you don’t want to insert the pin randomly. Hook it into the hair, lift slightly, and push it through.

This will keep it secure and looking super cute!

4. Low ponytail twist
For this next style, start with a low ponytail. Take your French pin and wrap your ponytail around it.

Twist the French pin clockwise once, then twice, in a half-twist motion.

Then, simply push the pin straight down into the twist.

5. Basic knotted bun
This style is super easy and works great for casual or elegant looks. First, gather a half-up section of your hair.

Split the ponytail into two sections and tie them together like you’re tying a shoe. This forms your bottom knot.

Repeat the same knotting process above it to create your top knot.

If you want extra security, add one more knot at the bottom.

Gently spread the knots out for a fuller look.

Now, take your French pin and insert it through the knots, making sure it holds everything in place.

6. Simple twisted bun
Saving the easiest one for last! Pull your hair back as if you’re making a ponytail. Twist your hair and wrap it around itself to form a bun.

Tuck the ends up under the bun, then gently flatten and stretch out the bun for a more relaxed look.
