My baby is 10.5 weeks old, he’s been a fussy baby since birth but lately he’s been crying a lot before every nap, sometimes it feels impossible to put him to sleep. He will only sleep if I’m walking and rocking him or bouncing him on the yoga ball and I need to keep changing his position because he pushes and moves so much while crying. I don’t understand how some babies can sleep independently, I feel like mine would never be able to do so.
My body is getting so sore as he’is getting heavier and I’m scared I would be stuck in this situation for a long time.
How can I change these habits? Is there any hope for things to become easier? Any other mamas with such difficult babies?

How long is he typically awake before you're putting him to sleep? I find it easier to put my baby down if we stick to 1.5hour wake time max at this age. If we go longer, she tends to get overtired and it's way harder to put her down. If you start trying to put him to sleep while he's still in a relatively good mood, maybe it'll be easier?

@sarabear96,
his wake windows are between 1-1.5 hour, never more than that. I follow a sleep schedule but nothing seems to be helping at this point. I wish I knew what I’m doing wrong

Baby is overstimulated at that point. Try for the nap after an hour of playing.

the yoga ball!!! mine at 10 weeks started being sooo fussy when she's tired and ready for a nap. out of nowhere! I'm tired too she's small but my arms and back are still struggling holding her walking around and bouncing! I'm with you!

I hear you mama! My boy has never been able to fall asleep independently…he will get sooo close in his swing, bassinet, and stroller and then just start crying. He needs the “trifecta” to fall asleep for naps - swaddle, white noise, and bouncing (can we just acknowledge how much your sweats bouncing on a yoga ball in the summer?! ). The best trick I’ve found is to start early - I start the trifecta before he even starts showing a bunch of sleepy cues, and that usually leads to him drifting off with minimal fuss.
Unfortunately not all babies have that ability to drift off to sleep independently. I’ve been promised by many mamas and google searches that it will eventually come though! Until then, I feel your struggles! ❤️

oh and if you don’t already have a wrap or other carrier, I HIGHLY recommend. It saves your arms while bouncing and the wrap helps contain their rowdiness, as long as you’re ok with it being a contact nap.

my kids have all been like this - a carrier is a must to get them asleep for naps, and then we transfer them down once they're asleep. or we go on a walk and they will fall asleep in the stroller.
